In this paper, living wages are calculated for the Chinese provinces for the period 2000-2007. The food intake methodology, developed in a previous study, is adapted to the context of China’s provinces, and wages are calculated for urban and rural areas and for different nutritional requirements. Wages are calculated for urban and rural areas and for different nutritional requirements. The proposed living wages provide a benchmark for companies, organizations and public institutions involved in the process of fixing or revising wages and framing labour legislation. Living wages are compared with the current minimum wages in the province of Guandong.
