This work helps to improve understanding on the role played by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in relation to responsible supply chain management, by taking as a study area the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. In particular, it examines the Catalan SMEs in their dual role of suppliers and customers, and analyses to what extent they receive CSR requirements of their customers, apply these requirements to their own suppliers and to what extent they transmit the received demands to the next step of the supply chain. In order to specify the questions about CSR requirements in the relationship with customers and suppliers, five areas are differentiated: environment, health and safety, labour rights, human rights and corruption.
