This paper explores the practices adopted by large Spanish companies to integrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into supply chain management. On the one hand, the types of mechanisms used for responsible supply management are examined and, on the other hand, some of the defining characteristics of the most advanced companies in this management field are identified. The results show that currently companies undertake primarily responsible management practices focused on selection and evaluation of suppliers, in order to better manage the risks associated with social and environmental issues. However, companies that are owned by foreign multinationals, sell consumer goods and have high CSR standards also seek collaboration with suppliers to exploit potential opportunities for value creation.
